Who is Hedwig?

Hedwig is a queer feminist, poly, switch femme, born and raised in Sweden. She moved to London in 2007, returned to Sweden in 2012. Hedwig first stared exploring the BDSM scene in London and Sweden in 2008. She is active both in public and private play consisting of a wide range of BDSM and fetish activities with a primary focus on rope bondage. Rope bondage and BDSM is a part of her life that she wish to explore both as a personal passion as well as sharing and learning from those around her.

Hedwig is passionate about communication, rope bondage, safer sex and consent culture, about redressing notions of power, physical sensations, vulnerability, dominance and submission, gender and communities working together. She hopes to bring rope bondage to a larger audience as a way to gain more body awareness, work on interpersonal communication and offer different routes to pleasure and surrender. As an educator, she focus on the mutual experience, embracing a inclusive and open atmosphere where the topics at hand are approached both with respect as well as a sense of humour.

Hedwig is a former member of the crew of Peer Rope London, current member of the crew of Peer Rope Malmö, and founding member and grand poobah of Hitchin’ Bitches. Hitchin’ Bitches is an international network for female identified riggers and ropetops with over 40 chapters over the world.

In 2011 Hedwig wrote her undergraduate thesis on Shibari, and is currently pursuing an academic career, while being active as a sex educator, activist and generally being a pain in the butt of patriarchy.

What is Hedwig offering on April 4th?

There will be TWO amazing classes classes and a frank, honest, and enlightening discussion available on April 4th, 2015:

Manipulation Station

Bondage starts with the body, not the rope. It starts with the bodies of everyone involved . This is an introductory class for those interested in how to move your body, with your partners body and with the ropes. This hands on class that will show and guide you in ways that you can manipulate and move as well as being more present and focused, suitable for both those more experienced as well as beginners. Plenty of time will be given to exercises that will open up the ways in which we move together and feel our bodies.

Let’s teppou

The teppou or rifle carrier tie is as iconic as it is complex. This is an advanced hands on class which will guide you through the steps of tying your first full teppo and digging into both the structural and aesthetic elements of this tie. We will look at various ways to use the tie, both floor work, partials and if time allows, full suspension the running man style. The fascinating thing about working around a teppou is that we can explore more elements of asymmery and ways of playing with balance.

This is a class suitable for those who are able to tie a standard 3 rope TK/gote and are confident in their suspension practices.

Rope and gender

What are the effects of gendered relations and structures in our rope communities? Is there any at all? In this talk we will take a look at ourselves and our communities and how we do, undo, play with, play against and subvert gender and normative assumptions about sexed bodies? This talk stem come from starting a group for female riggers/rope tops in London in 2011. Why was there a need for setting this up?

Regardless of background, we are all affected by the expectations and presumptions surrounding gender in our society, but how do they manifest themselves in relation to what we do with rope? Should we speak about ‘female riggers’ and what are the benefits of creating separatist spaces and how could they work in practice? And how should we even relate to the binary gender hiearchy when our kink communities are far more fluid and queer when it comes to gendered identities and sexed bodies? How can we not only present but also represent more constellations other than the default heteronormative?

This is a talk and discussion for anyone interested in developing strategies and ways in which to keep their community open and encouraging for everyone involved. What strategies can we work with, both in a personal capacity and on a community level in order to not exclude non-cismale riggers? This is not just a talk from a rigger/rope top perspective.

What’s the cost of this amazing day of rope?
